Meet the PS 37Q Family!

A message from our School Principal...

Dear Families of The Cynthia Jenkins School,

I want to warmly welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. As the new principal of P.S. 37Q, it is my sincere pleasure to work with our dedicated staff and community to help provide each and every student a quality educational experience that inspires and motivates them to become lifelong learners and caring contributors to our society.

We are committed to improve student achievement through collaboration with all stakeholders. Our goal is to provide a positive and nurturing environment that meets the individual needs of each student academically, emotionally and socially.

Families, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play a part in helping our students develop and succeed. Together, we can make a positive difference. A strong partnership between home and school fosters greater success for our student champions. As we all know, “It takes a village to raise a child.”

It is an honor to partner with you and I encourage you to contact me to share insights to continue our path to develop leaders of tomorrow. I wish your family, and especially your student, great success this school year and beyond.

Lakisha Jacobs,

Hear from our Assistant Principal...

Dear Cynthia Jenkins School Students and Families,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Interim Acting Assistant Principal of The Cynthia Jenkins School, P.S. 37Q.  It is a privilege and an honor to work in a school with such an inspiring Principal, persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.  I feel very blessed to be part of this school and to support the students and families.

I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than twenty years.  I have worked with students ranging in age from Kindergarten through 12th grade in a variety of roles. I have already reconnected with some of you who knew me as an English teacher at I.S.59Q where my career in education started.  I am thrilled to bring my skills as an educational leader to the Cynthia Jenkins School and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child's success.

On a personal note, I am a product of District 29 myself having attended P.S.176Q and I.S.59Q. I stayed in the area for High School as well attending August Martin H.S. before heading off to SUNY Stony Brook. Shortly after I graduated from Stony Brook, I returned to share what I had learned as well as my heart with the students of District 29. I have always believed in District 29 because it values high standards by providing rich learning experiences for all students.

I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of P.S.37Q this year and in the years to come.

Most importantly, I bring a belief that students are at the center of all school-related decisions.  I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students.  Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.  I look forward to meeting you soon!

Mr. Robert Young Jr.

Assistant Principal
